A Testimony from Bruce Fanin
Dear Michael,
I have been meaning to write this letter for some months now, and
have at last got round to it. I would like to take you back in time
to February 1972 when you led a Christian Mission to Hilton College,
with no doubt the permission and blessing of the then headmaster,
Raymond Slater. On the 17th February during the course of the
Mission, I committed myself to the Lord in the school's chapel. It
was not a Paul-ine conversion, but rather a Peter-type conversion -
just a quiet decision in the back pew with no bells, whistle or
thunderbolts.
I am now 50 years of age, and just have felt the need to say thank
you to those who have made an impact on my life, and you are one of
those people in the chain of interactions that I have had in my
walk. They say that the unsung heroes of the Christian church are
the Sunday School teachers - they sow they initial seeds, and others
water, but without them, no seed would be planted. You, and your
organisation African Enterprise are one of the unsung heroes, and
certainly in my life I have am eternally grateful to you and what you have
done.
My wife, Heather and I have been happily married for nearly 27 years
and have led active lives in the various churches that God has led
us to - Pinetown Presby (with Doug Muller), CEZ in Harare,
Butterworth Baptist Church, Nelspruit Methodist Church, and
presently Bryanston Methodist Church, where I am presently serve as an
Elder.
We have 4 children - all of them actively involved in church
activities - the older son and his wife at NCF in Pietermaritzburg,
my older daughter in Kokstad (she is serving her community service
year there), my younger son while at Pretoria University at 3CI, and
my younger daughter an active participant at St Annes' SCA in
Hilton. My older brother came to faith in 1983 and is presently in
full time youth ministry in Nelspruit, and my sister and her husband
serve the Lord in Australia. All this because of the seed planted
back in 1972. If I know anything about you, you will give God the
glory, and He richly does deserve it.
Thank you Michael for the call on your life, for your obedience and
faith. And thank you for touching my life - for without God and His
continuing controlling influence, who knows where I would be now.
God bless,
Bruce Fannin
