Kenya in Turmoil – A call to prayer from Stephen
Lungu
Beloved brothers and sisters:
I am writing this with a very heavy and saddened heart because of
the
tragic situation in Kenya. Kenya for a long time has been one of the
most stable nations in Africa and to see her go down like this is
very heart breaking.
There is really a great need to uphold our brothers and sisters in
the Lord in Kenya and even the whole nation in prayer and whatever
humanitarian support which can be channelled to that nation would be
life saving. This is a worse scenario than what we have seen and
experienced before in Africa as it has come so quickly and so fast.
No one knows who is coming after who as there are so many ethnic
groupings going after one another. Unlike Rwanda where only two
groups of people were involved in the genocide, in Kenya it is more
than seven or so. This scene has created a dilemma to our team and
others helping in the camps. Their safety is in danger and life has
become so difficult. They are working very, very hard but still
they need to be reinforced and encouraged.
All this is due to the greed, pride and corrupt practices of our
politicians. The politicians do not care about the people’s welfare
even though people may be dying at their door step. The people that
are suffering are the poor and the voiceless. These are the people
who suffer while the politicians enjoy a good life. Women and
children especially are being abused most horribly even pregnant
women some of whom are giving birth whilst running away; the little
babes on their mothers’ backs - the terror and fear of an arrow
coming from who knows where piercing from the back. They struggle to
flee but cannot get very far. This is the nightmare in Kenya.
Brothers and sisters I appeal for fervent prayer for Kenya and that
you may give generously to the need that has befallen Kenya which was
the pride of Africa so far.
I am in touch with Emmanuel Kopwe to find out whether our Tanzania
office, could fly a neutral team of brothers and sisters from other
nations, to go to Kenya and distribute food and any type of
humanitarian help since it is increasingly difficult for the Kenya
nationals to safely care and help these displaced people.
I am humbly pleading and asking for your fervent prayers for God to
intervene. We cannot sit back and watch as this great nation
degenerates. |
