Teamleader's Report - Ghana
March - May 2007

Report filed by:
Rev. Dr. Nii Amoo Darku
Teamleader, Ghana

"Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, "The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him!" May His name be praised.

NATIONAL MISSIONS PREPARATION

Getting the greenlight from the "elders at the gate" of Obuasi for a united approach to the missions, is only now coming as they appear to be seeing what we are intending to do in partnership with them. We are told there are close to about one thousand churches of different shades and forms in the "gold city". Unfortunately there is so much division among them that various factions do not want to have anything to do with others. We have been meeting with the various factions to try and bring them together to partner with us in this mission. June 12th is when they will all meet and take a final decision.

PROSTITUTES REHABILITATION PROJECT

The second batch of seventeen former prostitutes out of a group of 40, graduated on the 5th of April 2007 in a colourful ceremony. Prof. Clement Somuah, our Board Chair, chaired the occasion. This batch of girls were very special. One could see their transformed lives visibly showing as they sang, danced and greatly rejoiced in the Lord throughout the graduation ceremony. They called themselves "African Enterprise Ladies". One of the very best stories of this group is the conversion of a muslim lady into the Christian faith. She still attends church and is staying faithful to the cause in spite of obvious threats.

STRATEGIC ALLIANCE WITH SU (GHANA)

The Scripture Union (Ghana) SU, invited us to partner with them in training and equipping some of their patrons and student leaders in a seminar they organized. Testimonies received so far indicate a very fruitful outcome of the period. The director of the programme, Ofei-Awuku, told me, "Sir, you had been of a tremendous blessing to the leaders. This has been one of our outstanding seminars ever." We give glory to God and pray that we will continue to be of a blessings to many.

STANDARD CHARTERED BANK THANKSGIVING SERVICE

I was recently invited to serve as the preacher at an unusual thanksgiving service of the Standard Chartered Bank in Accra. God blessed the service which was held on the 15th of April 2007. I used the occasion to ask for sponsorship towards our prostitutes project after I had told them some of the sensational stories of the transformed lives of the ladies. At the end of the service, a love offering was collected towards the project.

URBAN MISSIONS CONFERENCE AND CONSULTATION

I was invited, on rather short notice to serve as a speaker and a facilitator at an urban missions conference and consultation in Nairobi, Kenya. I presented a paper on the "Church in the City" and also sat in on a consultation of various specialists brought in from all over the world to deliberate on urban missions. I believe this meeting, the first of its kind in Africa, will serve a very useful purpose depending on what the organization does as a follow-up to it.
